Description:

The Cairn Bookstand is the second piece in the Cairn collection — and like the Cairn Drinks Tray, it is a small object made with the same rigour and intention as our largest commissions.

Its form is elemental: two panels of solid American black walnut, meeting at a precise V-joint and supported by an intersecting cross base. There is nothing superfluous here. Every angle is considered, every edge chamfered with care, every surface hand-finished to bring out the deep, complex grain of the walnut.

At the centre of the V-joint, solid brass splines catch the light — the same signature detail as the Cairn Drinks Tray, and the mark that identifies this piece as part of the collection.

Handcrafted in our workshop just outside Edinburgh, the Cairn Bookstand is designed to hold an open book, a recipe, a magazine or a folio with quiet authority. It works equally well on a desk, a side table, a kitchen worktop or a bedside table — wherever a book deserves to be displayed rather than merely left lying flat.

Finished with a hand-applied oil wax that deepens the walnut grain and provides a durable, maintainable surface. Also available in oak, ash, cherry and mahogany for those who wish to complement a different interior palette.
